An Intimate Scotland Elopement

For an International photographer like myself, stepping into the role as a Scotland Elopement photographer is a dream come true. So when Matt & Kourtney told me they were planning to elope in Scotland, dreams and bucket list items were being checked off. There is something magical about the Scottish Highlands, with its rugged landscapes, ancient castles, and the feeling of stepping back in time.

About Matt & Kourtney’s Day

The day began at the charming Perle Hotel in Oban. Matt & Kourtney got ready in separate rooms, each filled with excitement and anticipation. The Perle Hotel’s blend of modern luxury and historic charm provided the perfect backdrop for the morning preparations. The views of the harbor and the cozy, elegant rooms added a touch of magic to the start of their day.

The ceremony took place at the serene and picturesque Kilchurn Castle ruins. Nestled on the edge of Loch Awe, Kilchurn Castle offered a breathtakingly beautiful and intimate setting for their vows. They both love castles, and Kilchurn, with its peaceful surroundings, felt like their own private haven. A fun addition to the elopement was that my husband, Sam Cole, had the honour of marrying them.

After the ceremony, we adventured into the Glencoe area for some intimate portraits. The dramatic landscapes of Glencoe, with its rolling hills, misty valleys, and striking mountains, provided an incredible backdrop. Every turn offered a new and stunning view, making it a photographer’s paradise. We took our time here before heading to where our day would conclude, Abbey Distillery.

At Abbey Distillery, we had a small, intimate dinner and whiskey tasting. The couples being fans of scotch whiskey, this was a dream come true for Matt, while Kourtney, an Outlander fan, soaked in the historic and romantic vibes. The distillery’s cozy atmosphere was perfect for an intimate celebration, allowing them to relax and enjoy their evening in each other’s company.

We asked Matt & Kourtney about their Scotland Elopement

Why Scotland for the Elopement?

For Kourtney and Matt, eloping in Scotland was all about creating a unique and personal experience. They had previously traveled to Italy and felt rushed and busy with pre-planned activities. Scotland, on the other hand, allowed them to take their time and explore at their own pace. It was about the journey and the adventure, meandering from one beautiful spot to another, much less touristy and far more authentic.

How did you choose the Perfect Ceremony Location?

Kilchurn Castle was a particularly special spot for them. The castle’s peaceful and secluded environment provided a much-needed escape from their busy lives back home. It felt like their own private place, perfect for the intimate ceremony they envisioned.

Tell us about your love story?

Matt & Kourtney have known each other for 12 years, having met at work where Matt was on the engineering side, and Kourtney was in marketing. Their story began with passing glances in the halls and blossomed into a beautiful relationship. They got engaged in their new home, surrounded by Christmas lights and festive cheer, culminating in a heartfelt proposal that was as real and intimate as their love.

Why choose to Elope?

As private individuals, they preferred to show their love without an audience. A day where they could take their time, explore, and be fully present with each other sounded perfect. Their elopement was a reflection of their authentic selves, a day filled with love, adventure, and the beauty of Scotland.
